about

Recorded at Pieter Space in Los Angeles, CA on October 5th, 2014, a Sunday.
This is the second take of the first session in a series of planned recording sessions. "For No One" is a structured improvisation piece written to engage the performers in a sort of listening round. It is a five movement "suite" of improvisations in which the performers will strive to "create a singular, patient, collected, undulating sound that watches itself". Each piece is five minutes long followed by five minutes of silence, stretching, relaxing, breathing and/or other non-actions, then the next piece will begin, and so on. Each piece contains at least one under-leader and at least one listener-follower. The under-leader makes their sounds without regard to the type of sounds that others are making. The under-leader plays freely at a volume underneath that of the listener-follower. The listener-follower bases their material solely off of that of the under-leader's. Each five minute piece contains a different U-L and L-F arrangement.
This particular day, the group did two takes of the 45 minute process. These recordings are from the first take.
You may also here the faint sound of the Gold Line train passing by every so often.
Enjoy.
