about

This is the second take from the second session in a series of planned recording sessions. "For No One" is a structured improvisation piece written to engage the performers in a sort of listening round. It is a five movement "suite" of improvisations in which the performers will strive to "create a singular, patient, collected, undulating sound that watches itself". Each piece is five minutes long followed by five minutes of silence, stretching, relaxing, breathing and/or other non-actions, then the next piece will begin, and so on. Each piece contains at least one under-leader and at least one listener-follower. The under-leader makes their sounds without regard to the type of sounds that others are making. The under-leader plays freely at a volume underneath that of the listener-follower. The listener-follower bases their material solely off of that of the under-leader's. Each five minute piece contains a different U-L and L-F arrangement.
This particular day, the quintet did two takes of the 45 minute process.
Enjoy.
